CCK Microsite
Welcome to CCK!
Welcome to the Churches of Christ the King (CCK) microsite—we are glad you have found your way here! CCK is a voluntary covenant communion of churches that exist to declare and make Christ Jesus the King in all the earth, and everything you will discover in these pages flows from this single desire. We are anchored God’s Story, the sweeping biblical narrative of the Father’s saving work in his Son and by his Spirit. We are devoted to the Great Tradition of the Church, treasuring the apostolic foundation on which our beliefs and practices firmly rest. Our inspiration and authority are anchored on the biblical message of God’s determination to save a people for himself in his Kingdom, centered on the person and work of Jesus of Nazareth.
As you browse, we hope you discover our commitment to apprenticeship: forming fellow disciples who learn to follow Jesus by walking closely with those who already do. And we are genuinely excited about the certification pathways and resources we are building to equip leaders and strengthen congregations for faithful, fruitful ministry. Above all, we long to partner with like-minded individuals, churches, and organizations who share our allegiance to the lordship and reign of Christ Jesus the King, to honor him in our theology, worship, spiritual formation, and mission. If you long to see him glorified where you live and serve, we would count it a joy to link arms with you! It is our hope to connect in the days ahead, and, if it be God’s will, to advance his reign together in your place of service today.
For Christ and His Kingdom,
Rev. Dr. Don L. Davis
President, Churches of Christ the King
Our Vision
We collaborate in friendship and shared life together to see a flourishing kingdom outpost in every neighborhood the Spirit leads us. Every community where broken people suffer–whether urban, suburban, or rural–has places where hope seems distant, and Christ’s love and Kingdom remain unknown.
We envision kingdom-focused CCK churches serving as embassies and outposts planted and thriving in these places, operating as beacons of gospel transformation and centers of kingdom life.
Our Mission
As individual communities of Christ’s disciples, CCK represents a covenant communion of churches that thrive together as we confess Christ’s person, experience his presence, follow his path, and fulfill his kingdom’s purpose.
Churches cannot flourish not in isolation, but require connection, friendship, and Gospel fellowship, for their edification and maturity. Through voluntary covenant partnerships, we strengthen one another to engage in Christ’s kingdom work: to declare the Good News to the lost, make disciples, plant churches to conserve the fruit of evangelism, and advance his Kingdom in places where his name has not yet been proclaimed.

How We Began
Hebron Community Church, the first church of the Churches of Christ the King (CCK) movement, is based in Wichita, Kansas. Hebron grew out of a small gathering of urban missionaries who belonged to a Religious Missionary Order (Blessed Hope Missionary Fellowship) who shared a common spiritual journey together for more than 25 years. During a transition, we decided to gather as a local assembly that would be the first tiny house church of a new movement of churches that would invite the lost and the least to become disciples of Jesus, fleshing out their dedication to Christ and his Kingdom where they live.
We live as a community of Christ’s disciples to confess his person in our theology, experience his presence in our worship gatherings, follow his path as disciples, and fulfill his kingdom purpose in our witness. We officially launched our new fellowship, Hebron Community Church, on the Feast of the Reign of Christ the King, November 2023.
Churches of Christ the King (CCK)Who We Are
CCK is a movement of churches bound in covenant relationship, forged from the burdens of urban missionaries whose hearts were united by a shared passion: to see Christ acknowledged as King in every corner of creation.
Our CCK member churches are communities of disciples who have discovered that the gospel is not merely personal salvation, but the inbreaking of God’s Kingdom through Jesus Christ–a kingdom Gospel that saves the lost, restores broken people, displays the live of the Kingdom, and brings hope to places where despair once reigned.
Shared Spirituality:
Embodying and Doing God’s Story
Shared Story, Shared Path, Shared Gateways
One Story to Rule Them All
In a world changing fast, and when many no longer find church life compelling, the Church of Jesus faces new challenges from outside and within. With the rise of competing, conflicting worldviews and stories, the Association of Churches Christ the King (CCK) seeks to capture the biblical tale of God’s salvation with zeal and clarity. We desire to live out this Story in a fresh, compelling way, in a manner that all people may both understand and believe.
Shared STORY
The Story that Ties Everything Together
A Foundation Laid In Zion:
Building on the Apostolic Faith
CCK unashamedly confesses the finality of the apostolic faith, the declaration of Jesus Christ as the heart and soul of all Christian discipleship and mission. The Church is built on the foundation of his person and work, and CCK thrives as a shared communion of churches that embrace this permanent and unchanging ground.
As assemblies of the King, we individually fellowship as unique communities of Christ’s disciples that confess his person, experience his presence, follow his path, and fulfill his kingdom’s purpose. Our allegiance to Christ, as borne witness by the apostles and prophets, serves as the cords of unity and commitment which joins our churches in spirit and action.
In all things we will defend, confess, and announce Jesus Christ as the foundation of all faith and life, centering our confession, worship, spiritual formation, and mission in the Story of God, the biblical truth that lies is at the center of all we do and pursue.
The Triune God’s Unfolding Drama
The Association of Churches of Christ the King is committed to returning to the biblical and historical narrative God tells of Christ and his Kingdom. The structure of the Bible Story–Creation, Incarnation, and Re-recreation—maps out the working of God in the world, his commitment to sending Jesus to earth, and making all things new through his Son, Christ the Victor. For disciples of Jesus, this biblical Story transcends all other things.

The Church’s Fidelity To Do God’s Story
Throughout history, the Church has served as the faithful guardian and interpreter of the apostolic witness, carefully preserving and transmitting the foundational testimony of those who walked with Jesus Christ, witnessed his death, resurrection, and ascension, and received his Great Commission. As the living Body of Christ, the Church stands as “a pillar and buttress of the truth” (1 Tim. 3:15, ESV), bearing the sacred responsibility to maintain doctrinal integrity while allowing the apostolic message to speak with fresh relevance to each generation.

Our Shared Life Together
As a messianic community which believes that Jesus of Nazareth is both Messiah and Lord, we use the CCKAnnual.com as our congregational guide to walk through together the life and ministry of Jesus in real time, anchoring our devotion and discipleship in the Scriptures, themes, songs, prayers, and disciplines of the Church, marking our shared spirituality and journey through the Church Calendar.

Your Kingdom Come
We select a theme each year to help us focus on the Life of Christ through a particular lens, and then teach on that theme throughout the year. We provide an at-a-glance summary of the entire year, with church year seasons, lectionary texts, and the weekly teaching themes and texts, along with a focus on those teachings daily (with short audio teachings to encourage our members.

Following the Life of Christ
As members of CCK, we center our spiritual formation upon the Church Year, and share individually and corporately in various disciplines associated with it. As a way of both worship and discipleship, the Church Year can help us put the events of our everyday lives in the context of those promises and historical moments of God’s saving work in the person of Jesus of Nazareth.

FOLLOWING THE NAZARENE TODAY
Living in the Way: talmidim
As disciples of Jesus (Aramaic, talmidim), we acknowledge that the Christian life embodies three interconnected journeys, a journey to becoming a disciple, a journey of obedience toward maturity, and a journey to fruitfulness.

Our Shared Confession of Faith
Confess Jesus as Lord through faith, identify with him in believers’ baptism, and surrender all to Christ.

Our Shared Journey of Discipleship
Live a disciplined walk, belong fully to a local church, and persevere in Kingdom advance in spiritual warfare.

Our Shared Mission of Witness
Representing Jesus in our life circle (oikos), living out a compelling testimony, and befriending others.

The Church at Worship
Wherever Christians have gathered in worship to God through Christ in the power of the Spirit, they have created music to express their love for God. Urban Christianity is no different! The goal of all church planting and urban ministry is to empower the unreached to become holy worshipers of our God through Jesus Christ.
Looking for worshippers
In partnership with others, Dr. Don Davis has composed Christian hymns and choruses for urban church worship for more than 50 years with a heart to enhance our worship of God, strengthen our love for Christ, and challenge us to advance God’s Kingdom in the city.
VanGuard
CCK’s ministry outreach for local churches to empower members to flesh our radical hospitality and extravagant generosity where they live, as they evangelize the lost and plant churches in unreached neighborhoods.
On Eagles Wings
CCK mobilizes faithful intercession and prayer gatherings, conferences, and concerts to seek awakening of the Church and advancement of the Kingdom in broken neighborhoods domestically and around the globe.
Shared Gateways
Common source for faith and practice.
How Retrieving our Sacred Roots can Renew and Refocus the Global Evangelical Movement
It’s time to learn from Christians throughout history—from the earliest disciples to today’s believers, including Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant traditions. We must rediscover the Christian Story as the heart of our Christian Faith and make it the center of our theological reflection, communal worship, spiritual formation, and missional purpose. The early Christians overcame obstacles and many societal and spiritual challenges but survived and thrived by keeping God’s Story at the center of everything.

Reclaiming the Great Tradition for a Vital Shared Spirituality.
We are committed to retrieving the Great Tradition for the revitalization and enrichment of the urban church. The Great Tradition represents that evangelical, apostolic, and catholic core of Christian faith and practice which came largely to fruition from 100-500 C.E. Its rich legacy and treasures represent the church’s confession of what the church has always believed, the work that that ancient, undivided Church celebrated and embodied, and the mission that it embraced and undertook.
The Four Gateways to the Mysteries of Faith
Understanding the Christian Journey Through SCRIPTURE, SYMBOL, STORY and SONG.
In its rich complexity and transformative power, the Christian faith reveals itself through multiple gateways that invite understanding and participation. Four primary gateways—Scripture, Symbol, Story, and Song—serve as foundational pathways through which believers encounter and engage with the divine mysteries. These gateways are not merely theoretical constructs but living portals through which we experience and express our faith, shaping our personal spiritualities and communal practices.

Scripture
The fundamental nature of the Scriptures supplies the church with essential knowledge of its identity, purpose, and mission. Through its confession and understanding of the Scriptures, the Church affirms its inspired witness to God’s action in history, primarily and finally in Christ, Jesus of Nazareth.

Symbol
Understanding how symbols enrich and shape our spiritual consciousness, and identity can revolutionize our daily spiritual practice and thought. Through symbols, we can reawaken in ritual engagement the powerful meanings connected with the sacramental practices of our faith.

Story
The grand narrative of God’s interaction with humanity, the story of God’s salvation promise given to the patriarchs, affirmed in his people, fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth, provides the framework through which Jesus’ present-day disciples may understand their spiritual formation, challenges, and journeys.

Song
Song is that divine gift expressing and affirming the Faith’s most profound truths and hopes through art and music. Music in Christian tradition serves as the articulation of both its theological confessions and heartfelt prayers and longings. As Augustine observed, “He who sings prays twice.”
The Torchbearers Institute
Training and Certification for Churches of Christ the King (CCK)
Our Foundation: The Great Tradition
The Torchbearers Institute (TTI) of CCK seeks to equip CCK’s members in its theological confession and defense, practices and liturgies of its worship, principles and practice of spiritual formation, and specific training for service, ministry, and membership.
CCK stands firmly on the bedrock of historic orthodox Christianity–the Great Tradition that has been “once for all delivered to the saints.” Because of this, we anchor ourselves in:
God’s Kingdom Drama of Salvation
From creation to new creation, centered on God’s covenant faithfulness, anchored on glorifying the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as revealed in Scripture.
The Covenant Faithfulness of God
The hope and certainty of God’s kingdom restoration of his created order is built upon his promises to Abraham and David, fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
The Church’s Role in the Missio Dei
As God’s continuing community in the world, the Church is the locus and agent of the Kingdom, embodying its message and testifying to its reality in its words and deeds.
Our Schools:
The Barnabas School and the Ambassadors Center
The Torchbearers Institute seeks to identify, equip, and release Spirit-gifted and called men and women within the CCK communion to plant and transition CCK churches that glorify Christ as king and advance his Kingdom where they live, work, and serve. The Torchbearers Institute has two distinct schools which comprise its offerings and programs:

The Power of Apprenticeships in the CCK Movement
Churches of Christ the King affirms that the primary calling of the Church is to form disciples of Christ and his Kingdom who embody the life, character, mission, and authority of Jesus Christ. We believe servant leadership and Christian maturity represents the basic call and vocation of every believer, regardless of status or position. Therefore, CCK adopts apprenticeship as the central pathway for raising up faithful, skilled, and spiritually mature leaders for Kingdom service, wherever God has placed them, in whatever position they are called to serve.
We deeply believe in the power of nurturing friendships and mentorships that enable faithful, teachable disciples of Christ to discover their calling and gifting, and fulfill their role in the body of Christ. Apprenticeship is God’s time-tested and proven method to advance his Kingdom, equip and release a new generation of leaders, and grow and multiply movements.
Our Program Overview
An apprentice-style program will form dyads, triads, quads, quintets (advisor* plus 1–4 apprentices) who meet monthly for 9-12 months, blending reading, discussion, written work, and hands-on ministry, guided by local church leaders. Below are the four Certification Pathways that Advisors lead Apprentices through toward qualification.
